Another use for Microsoft PowerPoint in the classroom is student-centered lessons. A teacher creates the lesson using hyperlinks, directional keys, and voice-overs in a PowerPoint presentation. A teacher does not present the material to a student, but instead, the student learns the material by exploring the PowerPoint on his or her own time. If a child does not understand a specific part of the lesson, he or she locates the appropriate section in the document and reviews the material. If a student misses a lesson, a teacher can create a student-centered PowerPoint and e-mail it to the student. The child learns the material at home, and when he or she comes back to school, he or she is not behind the other students in the classroom. The possibility of topics for a student-centered lesson is endless. My example of a student-centered lesson is appropriate for use in a second grade classroom.
