Teachers use the program Microsoft Excel to create spreadsheets, and the possibilities for the uses of a spreadsheet in the classroom are endless. In my ePortfolio, I included two examples of Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. The first spreadsheet is an example of a grade book. If the school district is low-income, a teacher can use Microsoft Excel to create a grade book on the computer. Microsoft Excel allows the user to input numbers, and the program performs the math functions mean, median, and mode for the user. With a drag of the mouse, the program repeats the function in selected columns saving the user time. The second spreadsheet is an example of data sheet. A teacher uses a data sheet to observe which groups of students in the population excel at the material and which groups of students in the population need help with the material. A teacher uses the data sheet to improve his or her teaching after analyzing the class's statistics. A teacher can use the Microsoft Excel grade book and data sheet at any level.
