In Microsoft PowerPoint, a teacher can create a concept map of a lesson plan. Some teachers may buy a concept mapping or mind mapping software, but PowerPoint is a free program because many schools choose to install Microsoft Office on the computers. A concept map allows a teacher to map out a lesson plan visually. My example of a concept map focuses on two second grade lesson plans involving fiction and nonfiction books. A teacher includes key concepts, visual images, standards, and vocabulary in the concept map. If a teacher cannot create a successful concept map, he or she may want to reconsider the path of the lesson. The students do not see the concept map, but it benefits a teacher's planning greatly.
